I thought i 'd start this topic to see what other peoples favourite linux OS is and why...
to start mines Sabayon 64. I really like the theme and the look everything is installed that you need.
Desktop - Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0ghz, 2Gb DDR2-800 Ram, 250gb + 200gb hdd + 500gb external, Ati Radeon 4850 512mb, 430watt Thermaltake PSU, Windows 7 Ultimate x64

well, mine haven't changed much since my other posts in this forum, Mandriva, PCLinuxOS, TinyMe, but there's a new one i saw on Distrowatch today - PCFluxboxOS - http://pcfluxboxos.wikidot.com/ - only last week i setup a 2nd linux work pc, just to use or checksumming of live data, and TinyMe test6 has been working perfectly. I'll try this FluxboxOS at some point.
Just discovered XBoxes (the olde worlde model, and yeah i know i'm only 5odd years late) and might put X-DSL or some other Linux on it when i get around to it

unlike x-dsl which has a few mad bits, and gentoox that needs a more than stock drive... xebian goes on softmods nice and plays well with the other things...
/me waits to see creaky posting for help in the console forums.. at that point I'm probably gonna have an accident through giggling ;-)

Arch. Very much an advanced user distro, but uses a really nice minimal set of config files and installs a very compact lean system. Comes in both 32 and 64 bit, haven't had any issues using either on laptop or desktops.
Basically borrows a lot of good ideas from Gentoo (rolling release, ability to easily build from source ala ebuilds), has a great package management system (pacman) and an awesome community. Seems to have a lot of users that claim their distro-hopping days are over, myself included. Just a really nice, elegant distro, and has no issues with Compiz-Fusion or video drivers, so can be as pretty or spartan as you want it. If anything, getting my video (8600GT) working was significantly easier on Arch than in Ubuntu, and kernel upgrades haven't interfered with it either. I can't speak highly enough of Arch, I love it!

- cheers, will check it out, but have far too much gaming to catch up on first, Halo & Star Wars etc etc, XBMC etc etc etc, then Linux will go on right at the very end

Creaky is Tinyme what i think it is (windows me but faster?) or is it a linux distro?

oh ok thanks for claring that up for me... no one has said ubuntu yet? i thought someone would of suggested it... i dont want this to be bashing area but i personally dont like pclinuxos to windowish for me lol but thats my opinion

'fraid i just use linux to get work done, i don't love linux just for itself, while it's great and everything it's just a tool to me, to get stuff done, just as Windows is great for 'just getting stuff done' like DVD ripping/AVI converting for example; i just like the easy life at home as i'm paid to not have an easy life while i'm at work :)

The trick with multiple machines is to share the downloaded package cache on a USB drive etc, if you already have a working xorg.conf the install takes next to no time to get up and running if you cut out the download times.

ooo.. I forgot the actual subject...
None.. I build my own these days on a debian 2.6 kernal.
Found that it doesn't take any more time than taking the preselected stuff, and you can avoid some of the hog apps.
My favourite little machine is running debian 2.6.20 kernal with just fluxbox and rox.. still looking for a very slim css enabled browser.. dillo doesn't really cut it.. but with only 32mb ram it's a nice little machine for irc chatting and messing about with.. average system usage is around 14mb with the gui desktop and xchat going..
My main machine is still on etch.. less and less happy with it as every day passes, but I need the uptime so until I get a few days to myself it's going to have to stay how it is...
I'm limited a little in my choices from having an antique twin aplha machine... arch doesn't have a working sparc/alpha kernal (it doesn't work on this anyway.. refuses to boot).. and it doesn't work with one welded in from either debian or fedora....
At least debian works way better than xp ever did.. that was 100+ crashes a day, which is how this old server came into my possession.
