WinAvi converter Error Message? *HELP*

Hi i just downloaded the movie Mr. Brooks and I tried converting it to DVD with WinAvi Video Converter but it comes up with the message " Cant decode this file. Maybe this file is broken or the relative decoder isnt installed." I dont understand what I need to do to get it to convert to DVD. The file I am trying to convert has the extension .mp4 .... I'm sure it has something to do with that file extension. Can you help??

use a better converter program...... ConvertXToDVD is one of the best converter programs that can burn directly to DVD..... you can add menus or not.... and it burns directly to DVD if you set the settings to do so. very easy program and it does what it says it does.
