ok, this is right off the ruzsteroid forum..which for the most part got positive response, namely the poster actually did something rather than whine like the lot of us...most of the feedback and discussion concensus was this is a legit, helpful post for those of us that just need to know.
yesterdays post
Quote:Well it's been days since CRIA (the bastard son of RIAA) pulled whatever slimy trick to scare the server provider to stop providing service to Demonoid, and I have been busy. Several calls and a visit to CRIA in Toronto has garnered the following information:
They are indeed a US industry and gov't run organization designed to change Canada's policy on internet and copyright
Other than representing a few recording companies in Canada (that are actually US owned), they do not represent the interest of Canadian Recording Industry
They first couple of court cases (one criminial and civil) against Demonoid was thrown out as The Crown could not see any Canadian laws being broken.
They tried the second trick on the server provider to intimidate them to the pull the plug on Demonoid
A couple of calls to my provincial and federal politicians has netted me this:
Anything internet and copyright is so far off the political radar right now that most politicians will consider it annoying
As a rule, most politicians hate interference from American institutions when it comes to influencing policy in the country, but put up with it anyways
One politician said that it knew of the CRIA and disliked the fact they were misrepresenting themselves to Canadian people
I pass the information that I got to a couple of reporters of various news media, some of them were interested in what I found, and said they will see what they could do with it and inform the public.
Taking a "wait & see" approach with this and Demonoid's rebirth.
