hey guys, i recently went to turn on my computer and i found out my psu was dead. before that everything worked fine. i went out and bought a new psu. everything works fine only i am not able to see any video whatsoever. i have tried both the onboard video and my radeon x1950pro. neither make a difference. i have also removed the cmos battery and cleared the cmos many times. still no change. any help would be greatly appreciated. i dont know if this will help, but when i turn it on i am not able to open my cd or dvd drive.
thanks.

Could be that when your PSU died, it took other things with it, like the mobo. (This is fairly common)

Failed power supplies can destroy other components. However, just as common is that you've missed a connection when plugging everything back in. Make sure you've plugged in the 4 pin connector for the CPU, and the 6 pin connector for the graphics card.

There are thousands of components on a motherboard. Depending on which one(s) failed, different problems could arise.

That's really personal preference. Most people prefer XP, but if you go Vista you will have lots of new technologies open to you, Directx10 and so on.

Stick with XP as long as you can.

That's my philosophy, but Vista does have some advantages...

This seems like a similar problem to a computer I've been working on.
I made a thread for it. The PSU never died on that one though. No video on either the onboard or video card but everything else powers up fine. So I'm thinking that the motherboard went "kaput" all on its own.

But how do you know everything powered up fine? If you've no video it could be a failed POST, in which case video is not the issue.
