BFG 8600GTS OC Question

I recently purchased a BFG 86000GTS OC on eBay. I do not have a 4 pin molex to 6 pic PCI-e power adaptor. Do I HAVE to have that PCI-E power adaptor for the card to run? Or will it run, but be underpowered since it doesnt have the power connector?

Generally, if a graphics card has a 6 pin power connector on it, you MUST plug it in for the card to work at all. I've not experienced any graphics card where this is not the case.
