I am using DVDShrink to reauthor DVDs. I only rip the Main Title and the Dolby 5.1 audio track from the original. I create the Video_TS folder with the .VOB's I need then use VOBMerge to put the VOB in 2 VOB files of less than 4 gigs.
I copy the VOB's over to the PS3 which will play them just fine.
The only problem that I about every 3rd DVD I do the second of the VOB's will not have a Dolby Codec Attatched.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

If, under the Audio information window, it says there is no codec installed, it is generally easy to download and install it.

Is the codec usually enveloped inside the VOB file? Because they play fine on the computer, but not on the PS3 like the others do.

The codec does not reside in the media stream.
A file consisting of video and audio is created by a video Encoder - in concert with an audio encoder.
To play back the file, it requires that a Decoder (one for the video and one for the audio) be used.
Hence a DVD file consisting of Mpeg video and AC3 audio require an MPEG decoder and an AC3 decoder (in common usage, a 'codec').
I don't know what the requirements are for PS3, but if you take a file which is playable on the PS3 and examine it with 'GSpot', you will know which Video and Audio codecs are acceptable and if you have a file which doesn't meet those specifications, then you must convert it to suit.
Generally, a DVD has AC3 audio.

Alright, but the VOB file usually contains a string calling for which codec the system should use to playback audio correct? Will GSpot allow me to edit the string in the VOB file so it will call for the codec?

Or maybe a software that will take a standalone VOB (no ifo files or anything) and reencode with correct timing, and codec attatchment.
