Fan working overtime on startup

Hi, since I put in my new graphics card, an 8600GT, when I start up my computer, right up until the login screen appears, the fan next to the hard drive works much louder and seeminlgy faster. Can anyone tell me why or what this is?
Also, I bought a new psu but haven't put it in as everythings going fine, and the user manual for my computer has no instructions on how to replace the psu. I have a Dell 8400, so can anyone help me replace it as I'm pretty scared of screwing it all up!!

OK the psu is now in and working fine, however on startup I get a message saying:
"Floppy Diskette Seek Failure
Strike F1 to continue or F2 to run setup utility" (wording might be slightly different for F2 option). Can anyone tell me how to fix this as the cables are definately in and the only cables that fit are the ones that are in!.
As to the previous post, does anyone know about the louder fan problem??

is the fan u are talking about for the heatsink for the GPU?
also do u use floppy disk??

The fan is next to heatsink, which is near the hard drive, so yes I believe it it the fan for heatsink for the GPU.
I rarely use the floppy disk but on startup it gives me the error, so making it go away would be very much appreciated!

The fan should readjust itself after OS is loaded...if not u should be able to lower the fan speed using the program/driver for the card
In the case of the floppy drive u might have the floppy as first Boot
Go into Bios and adjust it so that the hard drive has first boot priority, if that doesnt solve the problem dig a hole 6 feet deep and bury that hold piece of shit and buy a USB thumb drive :>

OK floppy is working fine, although a disk I had something I wanted on has gone missing, it is all good. Checked bios and although it was first, it wasn't actually plugged in [after a new psu fitting]. It was hidden behind loads of wide wires, so i simply didnt' see it!!
As for the fan, I think it's OK - seems just to be a normal thing now, must be because of the new graphics card as that's when it started..

yeah...pluged in or not it would of given u a conflict, as long as u have the floppy last or so it wont bother u, and if u get rid of the floppy drive there should be a setting were u could disable it to stop any possible conflicts
but the fan....just curious is this the fan belonging to the GPU??? the stock heatsink fan???

its probably just a hotter card then ur previous one so ur not really use to it....but if u have the nvidia control panel u can install ntune i thnk and ull be able to OC it and adjust the fan speed maually
WARNING!! DO NOT MESS AROUND WITH CLOCK SPEED UNLESS U ARE HONESTLY COMFORTABLE WITH DOING SO!!! i am letting u know now this because ive had experience with OCing, GPU has fried and so has the PCI express slot...so dont OC unless u understand the other settings

Yeah i have ntune, mainly to see temperature which seems to be around 44 degrees [i presume thats ok]. I wont OC as i don't wanna muck about with that, so i guess its just down to the fact that it's new...

YEAHH, so have fun with that card, ive been told its quit decent
....also there should be a setting under ntune to adjust fan speed, wen gaming u might want to max it out to make sure ur card doesnt over heat, and turn off....all speaking from experience

Im looking in ntune but can't find the fan settings even though it's in the help section!?

u might have to set the setting to advance to allow u to access all settings of ur card....and by off i mean no signal to the monitor...and ull have to reset ur comp
But if i hasnt happend to u i dont think u need to wry
im using an 8800 GTS and it heats up quite a bit and i play battlefield 2142 on max settings....that might be y my card turns off
