I've been connecting my laptop to my TV for quite some time now, even though I have always had this problem, I just didn't feel like doing anything about it.

But, my problem is... when I connect it to my hdtv, the ratio is extremely mis proportioned, and there is black/white distortion at the bottom of the screen. It isn't the ratio of the TV, and it isn't just MY hdtv.
My hdtv at my home does the same thing.

My graphics card is a nvidia geforce go 7900 gtx, and like I said I am using an s-video cable.
If there is any other specs or info you need to help I'll be happy to provide them.

Any ideas?

Try to set the resolution of your vid card (in your Nvidia panel) to match the TV. Have you tried any of the available choices?

The problem is he's using an S-Video connection (see thread title.)

With S-Video he's maxed out at 640x480i. He can't go any higher unless he uses VGA or DVI/HDMI.

So, if I use an HDMI cable it should work better for me? I thought I had played around with the resolutions because some of them just don't work... and its just weird cause my friend did the same thing with his ordinary basic laptop and it worked perfectly fine for him, but mine screws up all the time.

I'll try and get a cable and try it out...

I run a Panasonic HD LCD projector (720p) off the S-Video output of a Dish receiver and it looks fine (???).
