today i bought some verbs DL, and they burned perfectly. my question is why when i went to watch the disc, when it got to the halfway point the show paused, and would not go any farther. what i am talking about is the 2005 Rose Bowl game. right before halftime the game paused, and starting skipping. is this a problem with the burn process or is it my DVD player? my player says it will read +,-, but does not say anything about DL. i burned with Nero.

If it's an older DVD player, it is very possible that it may not be able to read the disc past the point that you go from layer to layer . . .

With the cost of single layer discs being dirt cheap, personally I would have put the first half on one disc and the second half on another . . a logical place to change discs anyway . . .

May be you could try booktyping(setting DVD+R/DVD+R DL to DVD-ROM) your media while burning, hence improves compatibility on standalone players.DVD-ROM is the only format that all original movie DVDs come in and by booktyping your disc,it will fool your player making it think you are playing an original movie.

Vincent.

I doubt booktyping will help being your standalone doesn't support playback of that format, make sure you aren't burning the DVD+R DL any faster than 4x max.

catfreak has the perfect solution .DVD-5-SL 24 cents each ,DVD-9- DVD+R DL 1.80 each you do the math lol.

or buy a new standalone DVD player that supports playback of DVD+R DL

If his standalone player doesn't support playing dual layer media then i think even he burns these DL at the lowest speed it won't help neither. But i always thought that even older players would play dual layer media as long as they are in DVD-ROM format. But if i'm wrong, then my bad. However it's indeed a good point about burning on 2 seperate sindle layer discs as their price has dropped so much now and you'll be able to save some money:)

I only have 2 standalone DVD players which will play DL disks, a Samsung DVD recorder and a $29.99 Toshiba. I have an older Philips 793-c player which plays anything else I can throw qat it except for DL disks. I agree with Catfreak, stick with the SL disks unless you really want to backup a favorite movie and no lose any detail in the extras.

Wich DVD burner do you have? Some don't support booktyping. This might be why you don't see the option in Nero Express.
