Quote:Upconverting -- Refers to a DVD player that formats its video output into one of the HDTV formats (720p, 1080i, coming soon: 1080p) or (colloquially) refers to an A/V receiver that converts composite video into S-video, etc. cross feeding the result to the appropriate (S-video, component video) output. Just because the DVD player or A/V receiver upconverts does not guarantee that the picture quality will be superior to that obtained by feeding the original video signal to the TV as-is.-forget where its from
REGARDING HD-DVD/BLU-RAY UPCONVERTING
In my opinion wait, if you go out and get blue ray or hd-dvd now you may have made a deadly choice, this is not like VHSvsDVD,that battle was obvious, dvd had every advantage over vhs, the only reason to wait then would have for dvd player prices to drop, not only are the players expensive now but if you buy one it maybe that in 2 years no one is producing for that player anymore, just be patient
