Can someone reconmended what graphics card will run on my system, i'm a bit of a noob, this is my system at the moment its a bit old so don't laugh. I'm not to sure what you need to know either:

Pentium 4
Columbia 2 Motherboard
Imedia 5094
1GB Ram
GeForce MX 440

I tried a GeForce 7300 GT 512mb card and it didn't seem to agree with my computer, games would crash or there would be random blocks appearing on the screen.

The best thing you should do is to upgrade your entire pc. Those components are very obsolete. Buying a new graphics card to that system wouldn't be the best choice.

Your probably right, i've had it for about 5 or 6 years. Is there nothing for it though, i don't really use it to much i just fancied a bit of an upgrade.

I just upgraded my PC for around £230/$640 inlucding VAT and postage/packaging [p+p]; a new graphics card [gfx card], new power supply unit [psu] which I needed to power the newer gfx card, and more RAM that was also faster than my old RAM.

If you want to get a better computer I suggest you buy a new one, especially as your PC is around 4/5 years old so connections and types of components you'll require are going to be harder/more expensive to buy - for example your gfx card. Seeing how cheap they are these days, from around £300/$600, it'll definately be worth your money getting a new one. Even the cheapest of cheap wil be miles better than what you have now, plus future upgrades within the next few years will be easier.

Unfortunately upgrading PCs that old is a false economy. You'll spend more on getting it up to standard than building a far superior system from scratch.

First we need to know how much you are willing to spend.

We can give you some suggestions on what to get but if we know what you can spend then someone will probably "put together" a computer and give you the links on where to get it.

Well i've probably got about £120 - £140. So just to re-cap i've got A 350w power supply, GeForce 7300GT 512mb card, would i only need a new motherboard and cpu? If so would a ECS - 945G-M3 3.0 LGA775 MATX motherboard and CORE 2 DUO E4400 be ok?

Also is the GeForce 7300GT 512mb AGP a reasonably good card?

Its an OK card, a year or two old I believe, but it is AGP, not PCI-E which may mean less choice if buying a new motherboard, being honest I suggest a new PC.

Well, I have some bad news.

1. A bog standard 350W PSU won't cut it for any upgrades
2. The 7300GT is a budget model card so it's too slow to play the latest games, plus its AGP which is an old platform.
3. ECS are a terrible motherboard manufacturer, avoid them at all costs.
The only good news is that the E4400 is a powerful CPU, far moreso than your P4.
