If have a pc with the following specs:
Intel p4 3.4GHz
1 GB ram
nVidia gforce 7600 (256MB)
Win XP SP 2
I want to upgrade it a little to keep up with current games
I am thinking of adding another gig of ram (i hav 2 slots free) and have my eye on the new nVidia GeForce 8500 512 MB grapics card
I know that it supports DirectX 10, but I ant to know if it will support DX10 without me having to upgrade to Vista as most people don't seem to like it.
could someone tell if i should do this or what I should do
All tips are welcome
PS -- I dont have a high budget :(

Hounest opinion?
Your not gonna like it but putting more money in a p4 system is suicide.
With the money you were going to use to uprgrade get a new computer with core 2 duo or an dual core and go from there.
P4 is old technology.

I'm sure if you upgrade your card and put another gig of ram in you will be able to play all the games you like.P4 maybe is a old processor now but it is still a very good processor. All said and done dual core maybe the future i have one myself but at present hardware is moving much faster than software as 64bit as not even really got going yet in my opinion so alot of the hardware coming out at the minute is still in line for things to come in the future and not fully with the present at the minute.

The 8500 is crap. Steer away from it, it's worse than your 7600GT?. Add a gig of ram, and tell us what the rest of your budget it. Honestly you cant do much more with a CPU like that, gonna have to upgrade that soon as well.

I want to buy a new one with a dual core processor but this one is only 6 months old
So I won't be able to get a new one right now
I'll get the gig of ram, but is it possible to keep my old GPU and install a new one
Someone told me you can run two graphics cards at the same time
PS I live in Saudi and I'm a student so Im not reli sure what my budget is something not too much--which is why im not buying a new rig
Currently I have been able to run Bioshock on medium graphics and textures, id say its pretty decent BUT I WANNA MAKE IT BETTER
PS could someone tell me about overclocking and if it s dangerous
EDIT: @abuzair
This is my graphics card (accoording to the box)
nVidia GeForce NX7600GS - T2D256EH and it says it has
dynamic overclocking technology (D.O.T.) - watever that is

Salam Alaikum, You WILL be able to run two 7600GTs in SLI IF you have an SLI motherboard.
Also overclocking is NOT dangerous as long as you don't overdo it. We can help you out with that too, in the overclocking thread. You also need to have a motherboard that allows overclocking, not all do.

Then it can't be overclocked, and it can't run SLI. So they best thing would be to sell that card and buy another.

The cards will work, and you can enable DX10 stuff in DX9, but DX10 wont actually work in XP.
As for the Video card, 600 Riyals would be about 160 US dollars. Prices over there wont be the same but to give you a general idea, you couls get something like this.

Ray92, try and track down a Radeon X1950 Pro. That should cost less than 600 riyals if the exchange rate Abuzar's given is right.
However, you will also want a better CPU than a P4 for Bioshock. The P4 is outdated and slow by now.

I have a question, but didn't know where to post so here goes.
I am getting a 160GB external/protable hard disk, and I have two choices.
I can get either a
-Lacie Mobile Disk 160 GB or
-Memorex Ultra TravelDrive
Price is not an issue
Without copmparing prices, which one of these two would you reccomend.
I am leaning toward the Memorex as it seems more durable, and protective (I have a nosy 4 year old brother in my house) but I'm open to suggestions based on other factors like speed as well.
Thanks
