My DVD R/RW wont read DVD's

Hi all

The reason for this thred is I just purchased a new video game that is a PC DVD. I go to install it and nothing happens. Neither of my drives CD or DVD reconize the disc. I have a package PC from compusa thats a little over a year old. So I grab a store bought DVD movie and throw that in, same thing happens "No disc in drive" I dont use my DVD R/RW for much of anything. I have on occasion burned pictures to CD's but I don't burn DVD's. I have in the past used my DVD R/RW to watch movies on so I know it used to work. I went to the device Manager and made sure I had all the most recent drivers installed. I was good to go there. So after reading some other threads I uninstalled both my CD and DVD-rom's and restarted my PC. After everything was all back up and running still same old problem no change. I also have a newer lap top that I threw the PC DVD into and it comes up fine no problems. So I know the game works. Any info on touble shooting this thing or possible ideas would be appreaciated.

this seems to me to be a firmware issue based on what you've told me, if nothing i've posted works then post back with the results and we will install new firmware(like reinstalling windows, but its for your dvd drive so the only difference you'll see is a new capability to play PC DVDS (DATA DVDS)

from what i understand your drive will play any disc but a DATA DVD,(pc dvd), make sure your computer meats the minium requirements for the game, also you can download diagnostic software for your drive off the producers of the drives website

when you uninstalled/installed drivers were you in safe mod for the uninstalling (you gotta be)?

FIRST uninstall properly like i told you,

THEN, turn off your computer, unplug it from its power cable, let the computer sit for 1 hour, this allows all power to discharge from the computer/motherboard, even when your computer isn't on it still has power running through it., plug it back up and try the disc again.

THIRDLY, there could be dust constricting the drives ports, crack up your cpu when its off, look at your SATA/ATA/POWER CONNECTIONS for the drive make sure its dust free and its in all the way.

tell me the model/brand/serial number/ ever detail on your drive!!
