Softmod to Error 09

Hi,
Went to softmod my friends XBOX today, all went well, as this is the fourth one I've done recently. Alas, it was not too bed, first time I ran through and used the hotswap to load EvolutionX as the dash, and made a backup of the eeprom (but failed to copy it to my pc!!!) Anyway, long story short, things went pear-shaped and now the XBOX boots to Error code 09. Now this has to do with the cables and the motherboard according to the descriptions of the codes, but I'm 99% sure its the HDD that has become corrupted, as when I swapped in my original drive, it came up with error 06, saying that it was unable to unlock the drive, and therefore the cable does work.
At the moment it seems the only solution is to get a EEPROM reader, and extract it that way. I've seen Chunkheads ones on eBay, and am considering getting one. Is there no other way to access / read the data from the drive at all, without the unlock key?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Error 9 should hotswap, only error 6 will stop the hotswap procedure!
Induce the Error 12 like in my tutorials, it will stop the Error 9 temporarily!
What do you mean you "Hotswapped to get EvolutionX"?

I'll try and hotswap the drive after introducing error 12, this involves disconnecting the IDE cable from the DVD drive doesnt it?
I've been trying to hotswap the drive after Error 09, thinking the drive may still be unlocked, but I get in an error when I try to access the drive using XBOXHDM, something about bus speed, and the drive isn't recognised.
As for "Hotswapped to get EvolutionX", I hotswapped the drive into my PC, loaded on the EvoX Dash using XBOXHDM, which all seemed to work without a hitch.

That sticky explains stuff all! Not only are some of them wrong, but it doesn't tell you how to fix them!
The one in my tutorials is much better!

Thanks GTASA, but I'm aware of what the error code means.
Okay, so after trying to manually make it give error 12, by disconnecting the DVD Drives IDE cable, it halts at the 'X' logo, which doesnt say Microsoft under it, after about 2-3mins it then brings up the error 09.
So after this I'm fairly certain that the HDD has become corrupt, and will need to read the EEPROM from the board. Has anyone else encountered a similar experience.
Chunkhead, you said that error 09 should still unlock the HDD, but after repeated tries, it still doesn't recognize the HDD

Did you try both hotswap methods? Also, some PC BIOSs don't like the hotswap...

I was only aware of one method of the hotswap, that being power on xbox, then quickly disconnecting the IDE cable and pluggin in the IDE cable attached to the motherboard on my PC. I've softmodded three other xbox's using this method and have not encountered any problems previously.
What is the other method for hot-swapping? I'm probably just going to purchase one of your EEPROM readers from eBay, and just install a larger HDD, as I have a feeling that this one is simply dead.

Sorry for double post, but I wasnt able to find the edit button. I've read on the second method of hotswapping, and will try it out over the weekend, but I am doubtful as to whether it will work, considering that the XBOXHDM method seems to be more reliable.

Yeah, not an issue, always happy to help!
Both methods have their strong points. I have personally never had an issue with the XboxHDM process, but maybe I just have a good PC setup?
Anyway, the Xplorer360 method is also pretty solid and it was the procedure that first got me into Xboxs.
