Have a new Vista PC and there are some things about Vista that are infuriating... and some only annoying. One in the latter category is that the latest BitTorrent release keeps freezing at odd times... and Peer Guardian 2, the IP blocker, doesn't work.

So what are the options? Since I at least want to finish some torrent downloads... I'll stay away from the topic of anonymous networks.

One option is to find another IP Blocker. But ProtoWall doesn't work with Vista. Any others? Can Privoxy be adapted to serve the same purpose if the PG2 block lists can be imported?

I've tried the Anonymizer proxy service and while some peers are getting through... I'm getting some odd peer stats that I was getting using PG2 when I thought it was working... it does in some unpredictable ways... or maybe only half works. There's also a wicked performance hit because everything is encrypted.

I've heard of some new bittorrent proxy service out of Canada. But I have no idea who the hell runs it.

Any other suggestions? Thanks!

So much for the Anonymizer. From: http://www.news.com/2100-1029_3-1023735.html

Quote:
Lance Cottrell, founder and president of Anonymizer.com says one reason he has chosen not to extend his identity-cloaking service (which sells for $30 a year) to peer-to-peer networks is the threat of lawsuits from the music industry. Anonymizer provides only anonymized Web browsing and dial-up services.

"We have not enabled our service to work with the Gnutellas of the world," Cottrell said. "The problem is that the RIAA has the kind of money that, whether you're right or wrong, you're out of business. It's not whether you win or lose, but whether you survive the litigation."
