Im trying to set up Utorrent with a BT home hub.
I forwarded the ports following the guide on portforward.com,
& everything goes fine for a while.
Eventually i end up with no internet connection & the error:
res:c\windows\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm
I tried everything i could think of from setting up a static ip,
(which left me no internet at all)
to setting the net.max_halfopen to 50.
I also installed a patch that runs through the command prompt that sets the max number of connections to 100.
I just noticed that Winrar has disappeared for the second time.
According to this it isnt installed,
but i just used it & now i cant find it!!
I've tried various scans, Virus/Spyware/Malware etc,
but all it finds is the odd tracking cookie.
Ive had to reinstall windows 3 times in the last week due to this problem as i havent found a fix yet.
From Googling this, it appears that this is quite a common problem with no resoluton found that I saw, no programs disappearing though. It appears to be connected to IE and/or DNS server. Losing your internet connection when setting a static ip usually means your DNS server and Default Gateway show the same address at ipconfig/all and were used. In that case, you would have to go into your Hub or call your ISP to get it/them. In a pinch, you could have a look at these, I have used them and have also never seen a bad word about it: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=150520 and using a Browser like Firefox, Opera, etc seemed to help.
