Is my brand new DS knackered?!

Got a brand new DS today and immediately fitted my M3 DS Simply. Worked like a charm. Tried a few games and all was well. However I switched off the DS playing a game and back on to return to the M3 DS Simply menu (at the time didn't know how to get to the M3 DS Simply GUI directly from game).

When it powered up all I got (on both screens) were vertical lines (sort of greyscale bars). I can hear it is on by pressing keys - I just can't see anything.

Is this an ex DS?!
