I think I am going to take a swing at a Samsung SH-203. I note there is a 203B and a 203N. If I'm not mistaken, I understand the 203N has lightscribe. It seems that many people are happy with their 203B (disclaimer: "among other brands/models") As I am interested in test driving a light scribe model, my question is whether or not I might expect the 203N model to be as reliable as the 203B? I don't know what it takes to incorporate this feature into a drive. If a "N" is significantly different in its construction, I'd probably want to play it safe and go with a drive that many are having sucess with.

Hey LOCO how are those Samys with booktyping these days? Last I heard (this was over a year ago) they couldn't booktype without assistance from third party firmware.

Thanks.

I think they may need a little outside help with the booktyping, but I'm not sure yet as I haven't got my new build built yet....but it's nice and safe in it's box. I've got an old NEC 3540a that required modified bitsetting firmware that still works great so I don't have a problem with third party help.

Loco,
Besides lightscribe, is there a difference between the 203B and 203N?

I have Samsung SH-183L,SH-203B and just ordered two SH-203N's.I have been very pleased with the Samsung's and recommend them highly.

Newegg has the SH-203N on sale 29.99 free ship right now.

"Bitsetting on this drive is temporal. i.e. Is only temporary.
Some s/w programs will do the bitsetting for you automatically.
ImgBurn & Nero being just two examples."
