My question is, should I replace my motherboard so that it can handle DDR2 or DDR3 RAM? Windows performance analysis (the one that comes with Vista) says that my RAM scores the lowest on their benchmark (although my processor is not far behind).
Is it worth investing in a motherboard and a couple sticks of DDR2 RAM, or should I just max out the slots I already have with 2 more sticks of DDR RAM?
Dont bother with DDR3 right now. It is way expensive, and there is a minimal improvment. Windows is reading such a low score because you have slow ram. PC 3200 is pretty slow. If you were to get some DDR2 800 PC6400 ram, that score would definelty jump up to above a 4. I'm not sure if your motherboard supports it though, so check your manual.
DDR1 really isn't as slow as its made out to be, despite the low clock speed. Because the latencies are so much lower, it still runs quite well. I wouldn't upgrade to a DDR2 board just for the sake of faster RAM. If you're going to do it, you may as well go all out and replace the CPU as well.
well now there is starting to be som mobos that support dr3 1600 but ye the latency im not so sure about so i made a thread dd2 and ddr3 its about the latencys and wich would end up better ddr2 800 is cheap now around $25-$50 for no heatsink types like apacer and kingston but around $100-$180 max for ones of quality brands and have heatsinks like corsair and team elite/xtreem go with corsaiar or team elite/xtreem in my opinion
