DVD-R backup losing quality over time?

So I burnt Raw Danger (a rare ps2 game) to a Verbatim DVD-R. For the first few weeks it booted up fine, but now for some reason the game takes upwards of 5 minutes to boot up. In-game loading is really slow too. Is the disc losing quality over time, or am I screwing with my laser? I can't imagine it's the laser since original games play fine.

I doubt it's the disc seeing as it's only 3 weeks old, I'd say it's your laser starting to go; even though it reads originals fine, it doesn't mean it's not your laser as it's harder for the PS2 to read back-ups than originals.

Try your other back-ups and see if they're ok.

Actually i took the disc out of the tray and cleaned it off (duh) It's working better now. Although when i hold it up to a light i se these weird little marks that somehow got onto the surface of the disc. they didnt come off when i cleaned the disc.
