Samsung HDTV won't read signal from my LG dvd player

I've connected my LG LGBVD418 dvd player via HDMI to my samsung LN-T3242H hdtv and it says it is "Searching for Signals" but it never finds one. If i connect via component I can actually see the video but i can't hear any sound. also i can't even connect via AV cables it will search for signal as well. please help.
