Sorry if this is a common problem. I tried to search the forum for an answer before posting.....
I use a slimline ps2. I've been using my swap magic (2.0 USA BUILD it says on the disc) to play my backups and it has never given me any trouble. The other day, I left my backup of Guitar Hero 3 running on pause over night so I wouldn't have to reswap it. I unpaused it this morning, and although the disc took a little longer to get back to the title screen at first, it seemed to be working okay. However, when I went to load another backup, the ps2 reacted differently than it has in the past:
Swap magic boots up okay, and gives me the 'insert disc' message as usual, but the disc stops spinning. When I open up the tray to load a backup, the disc is stationary, where in the past it would still be spinning when i went to swap. When I swapped my back up in, it would not start to load, nor spin for that matter.
I opened up my ps2 again, double and triple checked the two sensors. I hadn't previously taped down the third sensor connected to the little white stopper-pad thingy, but I went ahead and taped that down also this time just in case.
I've tried 2 different swap discs...same result. Loads it up like its ready to swap, but the disc isn't spinning when I open the lid. My ps2 still seems to load up original discs fine though. Wierd. I even took the top off completly and held down the sensors myself just to be sure. no luck.
Anyone had this happen to them. Any Suggestions???
Sorry to say this but it's really stupid to leave your PS2 running all night - most likely your laser is fried because of it! You can also burn out the fan doing that (on the fat PS2s). ALWAYS turn off your PS2 when not in use - that's what memory cards are for!
You learned a hard lesson son - lasers cost $60-70 new and can be purchased online.
Thanks for the reply. Simple fix actually. For whatever reason in the past my swap magic disc was trying to auto-load my backups without me actuall pressing the x button to load them. I was unaware that the usual way for swap to work was for the disc to stop. The whole time i'd been swapping it fast as it was spinning. Why it decided to work correctly now I'm not sure.
Anway, lesson learned, indeed, and perhaps i'm not as stupid as one would believe. Thanks for the reassurence though.
