Ive only used DVD lightscribes, no problems like that encountered. ERRRM!!!!
Have you tried updating the firmware for your lightscribe drive?
This usually solves the problem of a particular disk brand not burning well or not being recognised properly.

Also, and I have to ask, you did put the lightscribe disk the right way up in the drive did'nt you?.

find out what make your drive is and visit the manufacturers website, look under support. They will usually provide an executable fill that will flash your firmware.
Some give you a .bin file (i think it is) and a firmware flash utility that will use the .bin file to flash your drive.
If you have the top quality burning software "IMGBURN" it has an option in the settings or tools menu to check if updates exist for your drive for you.
If you find an update is available, I suggest you have a litlle read up about flashing your drive and using flash utilities.
Its not very difficult but if you were to flash your drive with the wrong firmware you could screw it up.
