I have an Netgear DG834GSP v3 router bought from Virgin, when I wanted broadband from them but I switched to BT after 2 weeks because the activation process took too much.. I don't know if it's locked or not but it works with a BT Broadband account (unlimited allowance/~23 month). I moved and now I am connected through a ethernet cable from a Netgear router (it's not wireless) and there's a switch between us.

I would like to know, can I use my DG834GSP v3 as a HUB and extend the connection wireless so I can connect my laptop too? Or wired, for both my laptop and my desktop.

I mean, I think I can do that with a simple hub or switch but does it worth trying with a Netgear router? Is this possible?

Thank you.

every router is a switch
a switch is just a smart hub, hubs are useless the way i see it.

A router just has a DHCP, and assigns addresses and it acts as a gateway: to the unkown world of the internet.

Just disable these things in the config.
