Hi, i have just bought another dvd drive to put under my other one.
they are both IDE and are connected with power. my hdds are SATA. when i turn on my computer and log into windows only my original one shows under windows and device manager. how do i get my other one to be recognised?
i only have 1 place for IDE connections on my mobo and have used the middle ide connection for the 2nd burner. the other end is in the mobo and the other end is in my first burner.

thanks for your help.

Have you set your second burner to SLAVE using the jumper?
Look on the carton the drive came in, as it will almost certainly show you how to set the jumper plug.

As Onya said make sure your middle drive is master and your end is slave. Also some of the sata motherboards need Cable select on both drives. Chris

@Jalathole

Just put the drives as master and slave;It doesn't matter witch is set at the end or middle. If it's a Dell you may have to use cable select on both. Just look at your old drive if you need m/s or c/s.

Burn On,
Russell

PS. The jumper positions are stamped/marked on top/back of the drives depending on manufacturer.

It will matter depending on if it's a 40 or 60 conductor ribbon.

It's 40 or 80 and the middle gray is slave and the end black one is master. if you have the 80 wire ide cable the blue goes in the moboard middle gray to slave and end black to master, just set the jumpers both to cable select
