Not getting as smooth picture as i should

Hi, I recently bought a new lcd tv(samsung m87)which has a response time of 8ms. When I watch regular tv brodcasts I get a really smooth picture, aswell as when watching dvds through my player. Unfortunaley the dvdplayer donsen't have very good quality otherwise so instead I'm watching my dvds through my computer connected to the tv by a DVI-HDMI cable. But with this I don't get nearly as smooth playback, why is that?
The hdmi cable is 10m long, could it matter?
