Ok so there's different region DS games (USA, EUR, AUS). When playing Wi-Fi games, are 'regions' (local, worldwide) based on geographical location, IP address or version/region of the actual game?

I'm in Australia and have no problems connecting on Wi-Fi with my Aus versions of Mario Kart and Metroid Prime Hunters. However my Diddy Kong Racing DS and Starfox Command are both USA versions and they take MUCH longer to connect to people.

When I play online it's usually at night time and when I was thinking about it, if who you connect to is based on version of the game then my Diddy Kong Racing DS and Starfox Command would connect to players in North America since they'd have the USA version too. But night time in Australia is early morning over there so everyone would be asleep. Maybe that's why I can't find anyone? I tried connecting at around 11am here since it'd be early evening in the US and I could actually connect to people more than when I tried at night time. So I think it Wi-Fi may based on region of the game. So maybe if I had an Aus version of the game it'd connect to more people at night time.

However, in Diddy Kong Racing it still takes longer than Metroid and Mario Kart and usually it only connects with 1 or 2 people not 5 others.

Does anyone else experience a lack of connections with Diddy Kong Racing DS?

So if anyone knows the definite answer to my original question can you let me know. Thanks

If your game is trying to connect to a region other than the one you're in then it's probable that it will be much harder to connect. It's as simple as that. The servers are further away and the pings will be much bigger. Sometimes you won't get connected at all.
