Suggestions for ripping a TV season DVD

I am ripping the TV season DVDs I have and converting them .avi files, but many of them are bothersome to copy. Often each episode is a single .vob file on the disc, but sometimes all the episodes are combined into a single .vod file.

I have DVD Decrypted and DVD Shrink and neither of them makes it easy to rip the discs. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to do it or do I just have to live it the complicated way?
