Hello, I've just recently started having this problem. One day I had 3 blue screens in a row but before the first one, it said that something was wrong on the hard-drive some file has been changed or something. So then I started playing a game (Crysis) and ran FPS in it. Although the meter showed 30fps, the game lagged, as if the hard-drive was lagging. I have 500GB Western Digital SATA II. I checked in task manager, the I/O Reads, Crysis had 500,000 I/O reads, while this process called "crss.exe" had 1.5 million I/O reads. I wonder if that's what slowing my PC down. I also read that crss.exe is a worm/virus and also part of the windows. Any help? I cannot get rid of it that easily. I am currently running Dr. Web scan.... thanks in advance.
EDIT: I MEANT CSRSS.EXE, but in Google it still apears as a virus.
CSRSS.exe is a Client/Server Runtime Process. It is not a virus, unless it is located someplace other that the C:\Windows\System32 folder
Open the task manager find the program and tell it to end the process. It is a critical component of Microsoft and the file will not be ended. If you are able to end the program then you are infected with a virus called Ahlem.A Worm.
Yea I wasn't able to end it which must mean it's Windows Process. What I don't get is why its I/O reads are growing so rapidly? Or should I just restart more often? I also experience choppiness which I haven't experienced before and I am pretty sure it's not my gpu. I ran mIRC (Internet Relay Chat) and attempted to connect to a server. Then I suddenly received a bluescreen. For the next 2 times same thing happened except I didn't run mIRC... only MSN. So I should suppose it's a hard-drive problem, especially if it's so big.
If I do system restore for 2 days ago, will that fix the problem? Also, system restore doesn't delete files right?
A system restore will only remove files that are newer than the restore point. You could try that and see if it works. The next thing that I would recommend is downloading the following programs and running them in safe mode. Make sure that all programs are updated before you reboot the machine. The problem is this file is in your registry. These programs should help remove it.
After you get the updates for everything, except CCleaner is already up to date, reboot the machine in safe mode and run them. This should get rid of all problems. In case you are not aware, to get to safe mode press F8 repeatedly as the computer is booting up. You will be given a menu to boot to safe mode. Safe mode does not allow for startup programs to run and it is easier to get things clean. Good luck!
I was trying to find out if my HD was slowing down. Guess I will find that out when I format my HD before re-installing my OS, in a long run. Thanks anyways. :)
