TGE MP1000 MP3 player: Do you need help?

Last Christmas we purchased my son a new mp3 player. It did not work, we returned it 3 times and finally gave up. I may be able to help someone get theirs going, as I was able to get mine going (almost a year later) with a little help. FYI TGE group's customer support and tech support stinks. The steps I used will work for the MP317, MP512, MP1000,MP3000,KP512,KP1000 and KP3000.
1. download the updated firmware from TGE group, and run the installer.
2. keep battery in the mp3 player, plug it in to the usb port while holding the PLAY/PAUSE button down (I used a chip clip). DO NOT RELEASE THE PLAY BUTTON AT THIS POINT.
3. run the updater software per TGE's instructions.
4. you will then see the typical menu: add music, open file etc., ignore these options. Click on my computer, you should then see the removable drive. Right click on it, select format.
5. When format is complete, close the firmware updater and all other windows. Unplug the mp3 player, keeping the play button pressed plug it back in to the usb port. Open the firmware updater, check the format data box and click start.
You should now be able to use the player as usual, for music or data.
I hope this helps. I have been able to get 4 different models to work so far.
