I went to our local CompUSA to pickup some supplies and our Rep gave me the news that they are closing all their stores as of this coming weekend. This really stinks as this was our last computer store in our area.

With CompUSA going out we no longer have a computer store. We're stuck with Best Buy, Circuit City and several office places like Office Depot. We have Apple stores but their prices stink. CompUSA is going to be missed!

CompUSA should serve as a lesson to the rest, give the customers what they want or watch them walk over to the competitor. If they can't provide what we want, we don't need them. With Newegg.com, I don't need the brick and mortar guys anymore. They are free to close up anytime they want.
Darn, they left the one near me open.
Closing List
More Dirt
Looks like the big fork is on order for the holiday season. Based on this article, the entire company is being disbanded piece by piece.

CompUSA usually had what I wanted and at good prices, but if you ever had a question, good luck finding someone to help you. I went in there to buy a computer once, couldn't get anyone to help me and left and bought it somewhere else.

CompUSA used to be a pretty good store for the computer geeks and techies, but that was over 10 years ago. They've really lost their way since then. The one nearest closed about 6 month ago. I'm surprised they stayed open as long as they did, because there's a Microcenter 5 minutes away. Microcenter is everything that was good about CompUSA back in the day and a whole lot better on top of that.

Compusa - Lost my bussiness a few years ago buy refusing to replace a deffective product because I had sent the Upc for the rebate ! I got the rebate& Hitachi replaced the HDD no problem ! I have'nt shopped or recommended anyone shop there since! while I am sorry that their employees are getting the AXE ! during Christmas! I can't say I'll miss the poor service and rude customer support I got there ! We only had 2 Compusa's in the Whole state anyway so it's not like we lost much ! Like BlivetNC & Memnock's comments stated they were good at one time but that was long ago - Besides I can always order from Newegg or another online retailer and get what I need If I can't find it locally !!! Maybe someone else will pick up the reins and take over their locations ? maybe not ? My nearest store was in the same mall complex as a BestBuy though they were there first! poor management is the Bane ot most big companies and It appaers to have caught up with them !
FeetZ Up ! Head Down !

Our Rep at CompUSA is really good and always gave us fair prices. It was nice to have a place close by that was open till 10pm. We buy 99% of our stuff thru our wholesale distributors but they close at 5pm. Most orders have to be shipped overnight. So if we needed a cable or hard drive after hours CompUSA was great. Best Buy and those guys don't sell wholesale and their markups are super high. Hopefully another computer company will move in like Micro Center. We used to visit them when I was being treated in Columbus, Ohio. Life will go on but I hate to see businesses go especially here in Pittsburgh. We have seen so much leave and nothing come in to replace it. We lost US Air... and now our local park Kennywood was sold today to a Spanish firm. Wonder what's next?

The store are open but the mexican billionaire that owned it sold all the stores and the people that bought them are closing them all down. The new owners bought in a liquidation company to sell everything. The rumor is that this new company wanted the repair and web business only.

If you guys/gals haven't figured it out yet the company that bought the online part of CompUSA is TigerDirect. I got to be pretty good friends with the Store Manager here and he gave me some dirt on the situation with the stores. The OWNER was not making the profit that he thought the stores should make and therefore decided to sell in his best interest. ALL of the CompUSA line... B&M and Website.
Case in point the store in my town was losing money almost every month, maybe NOT much...but a loser none the less, and the manager that took over created more business with retail and corporate accounts. Anyway it was to little to late the guy (OWNER) was ready to sell and cover his "losses". That's the story I got!
Our store here has about a week left and with a friend's advice I'm gonna see if I can pick up a fan or two.. :D

I wonder if the pair in Houston TX (listed on the web site) are still open?

Sadly that seems to be the case more and more these days.
I've been using either Tigerdirect or Newegg of late anyway...it's just sad to see another decent set of stores kick the can.

Be sure you know the true original price of an item you're looking for before handing over your cash to CompUSA and their "going out of business sale". I saw it this past weekend at the Nashville store; they jack up the "regular" price and then they offer you 50% off. I was astounded at some of their "deals". Stunts like that reminded me of Service Merchandise when they closed up. I say stick with the mainstream online stores or better known B&M stores. There are better deals out there.

lol I went there and they were selling a 6000 dollar TV for 4000. The thing is that I can get the same TV for about 3000 elsewhere. They're a bunch of crooks.

I agree you have to watch the "extra" markup on items and be aware of what you can get it for online. My compUSA has gone to 50%-70% off and some of it is good deals and other items are just getting to where it's difficult to pass up. I'm holding out for another HIGH wattage psu. At 60% off it's really close. lol.
