EDIT: I'm running into some trouble, please help.
I have a new PAL PS2, slim, so it's probably the latest version. I burned some NTSC images onto Maxell DVD+R 16x on 8x speed (without booktyping, because that wasn't necessary anymore, was it?). Now that I'm running them, they are all black and white though, with a distorted image.
I think it's some NTSC on PAL issue, but I don't know how to fix it. My TV is old, so it doesn't have some menu where I can adjust settings. But my DVD player (hooked up to the same TV), has that, and it's able to run NTSC dvd's too.
edit: I downloaded an NTSC to PAL convertor, which seems to have done the trick. Is this a good way of solving this issue, or are there downsides to it, to your knowledge?

edit: I seem to editing a LOT. Luckily noone answered yet, so it shouldn't matter.
An entirely different question this: I notice backup disks make a bit more noise in my Ps2. I have two questions concerning this:
1. Is it normal that it makes a bit more noise? Or are good quality copies supposed to sound exactly the same as originals?
2. When checking the disk using dvd speed, like mentioned in the thread about media quality, can I 100% assume that a disk is top quality if the test results meet up to the standards? Or are there other problems a bad burn might have that could go unnoticed in a test, but could still prove problematic when running the disk in a PS2.

Weird that your NTSC DVDs work but your NTSC games don't. You got it working so *shrug*.
1. Yeah, a little more noise is not uncommon.
2. As long as you rip the original properly and burn at the right speed then it should be fine.

Thanks for your response, I guess it's okay if it works. :)
I can't get my Suidoken III backup to work though. I burned it on the mentioned Maxell DVD+R, but it's just a black screen. I didn't booktype it, because I thought that wasn't needed anymore since I've a newer PS2 model.
Should I booktype it after all? Or might picking another brand of DVD's solve this?

I don't think I can booktype it though, I don't see my burner listed in the brands in DVD decrypter. And in Nero I can't even setup my burner's options in the image burning window.
It's a notebook burner, maybe that's why. :/

TDKs are terrible, don't use them, they're low quality and stress the laser. Sonys are fine, not sure about fujis though.
Are you using swap magic or a mod chip?

I'm using that Memor32 + Memento firmware thingy.
It's working for 2 of the 3 backups I've tried, except for Suikoden.
I can't really imagine choice of DVD could be the difference between something working and freezing, can it? If that isn't the reason Suikoden III isn't functioning, it might be that booktyping. But as I said, I can't do that.
Any tips of what to do to get it to work?

Different brands of DVD can make a big difference.....
Edit: Have you tried rebuilding it?
