Which should I get; USBeXtreme or HDXtreme

I've been doing some looking, and to be honest, I can't tell the difference between one and the other. If anyone can give me any advice from past experience I would appreciate it. Also, if it helps, my PS2 is a v9, so I already know that I should be able to use it's hard drive to backup games onto, and even if that don't work, I still got a spare 250 GB USB drive laying around in a drawer.

neither, the usb ports on the ps2 is only usb1.1; slow for usb hdd games.
exploiting your system is the way to go on the fat ps2, if you don't want a modchip. you should get a nice size IDE hdd, the network adapter, action replay MAX with usb support, an original ps1 game, hdloader 0.8b elf, and have at least 2mb on your memory card, or just get a new memory card.

no, my post does go with your situation. and many members would agree that using a regular hdd is way better than a usb hdd, especially if you have a fat ps2.
my v7 is using hdloader (via memory card exploit) and a hdd attached to the network adapter. hdloader is the best hdd program for any fat ps2; has the highest hdd and game compatability.

So in other words you're saying that HDLoader is the best one to get? Also, if there is already a hard drive inside of the PS2, why would I need to buy anothre one? If it get's to crowded, I can just go inside, and delete the game files as needed.
Also, since HDLoader works via memory card (I have a 64 MB card, so I've got memory to spare. ;)), I assume that means the USBeXtreme doesn't? If not then what makes it a less desirable choice?
Also, and this is very important, which one of the two options can actaully read backups without a mod chip? If a backup won't work then is there a work-around?

hdloader is the best to use for a fat ps2. if you have a hdd over 150gb, then you're safe.
usbextreme does not have an elf file, so it can't be booted from the memory card exploit. also, people who have tried games with a usb hdd said it's unbearable. too much choppiness and lag. remember, sony had no intention of using the usb ports for games, just addons.
there is a workaround for ALL hdd games; you load them with winhiip via computer. it's faster, and it doesn't check if the disc is an original or copied/import. you will need dvd decrypter to rip the games to the computer, and winhiip to transfer it to the hdd.

USB Extreme is a complete waste of time. The game compatability is minimal and as stated above the USB ports are v1.1 so data transfer is only if best as quick as your dvd/cd player. I tried for months to make it happen and now just use my 500gb hard drive for my pc.

I did some looking, and I decided to go with the HD Extreme.

Basically this is a two and one deal, and while I have never used the external hard drive feature, I am pleased to say that HDXtreme is working out well enough on it's own. It even managed to run Superman Returns without any problems (the problem with reading it from the DVD is that the game would frequently slow down due to having read data from the disc). So if you don't know which one to get I say get this one; that way you only end up paying about $10 extra, and since both programs are on the same disc, that works nicely to.

if you followed my plan, all you would have spend was $20 on action replay MAX, or nothing if you know someone with ARMAX. also, you're basically using the last method on a fat ps2.
like i said before, fat ps2 benefit the most when using a IDE hdd and network adapter, and hdloader; the read rate is way faster than using a usb hdd since the fat ps2 was designed to have a IDE hdd. you will have 95% game compatability, and have nearly no game lag. that's why most people who owns a fat ps2 goes this route.
