Go to the manufacturer's website, and it should offer a drivers download page.

What are the specs of the system?
Can you remember what type of audio control panel you had before?

if the laptop came with Vista, there won't be an XP driver for it. Laptops that come with vista use hardware that has never been in a PC running XP, so consequently no drivers will have been made for XP. It's either Vista or no sound I'm afraid.

No, that's my point, there'll be no download for the driver because it never existed. All you can do is cal their tech support but I highly doubt they'll be any use, try and obtain the motherboard's product number and chipset if you can.

Interesting comment. What do you mean by that?
Also, your signature's now much too big, if you're including a picture (even a userbar) it must be only 3 lines of text, not the current 10.

i all ready warned him about it so he better fix it ASAP or suffer a temp ban til he does fix it. i've downgraded 2 laptops & 1 tower from vista to xp & got everything working including sound & webcam on the laptops so it can be done.

Recent ones? I expected it could be done shortly after vista came out, but the longer Vista had existed the less likely I'd think you'd be to succeed.

That's because I don't have a picture in my signature. Time to read the rules again perhaps?

sam, recent as the tower was about 2 weeks ago last friday. the 2nd laptop which is identical to 1st laptop was done near the end of october & they are toshiba satellites.
1. Text-only signatures should have at most 5 lines of text.

Hmm, interesting. Where have you been getting the drivers? Moreover, finding out which drivers you need?

What we're saying is that it may be possible to get the drivers, but you'll have to use a bit of ingenuity. If you can find a driver for an older laptop by the same brand, that may also work for yours. Try to make sure the one you choose is as similar in spec as possible (the same type of processor, at least)
