padge993,
Here's a comlete guide to ConvertXtoDVD. A 700MB AVI file will run anywhere from 2.8GB-3.0GB give or take (including external subtitles embedded). But to play it safe, do not burn your encoded files to DVD at once. Instead, check the size of the converted movie in your "Working Folder". Also, you need to make sure under Settings, Burning tab, Burn Result to DVD is deselected as well as Prefer SAO burning mode for DVD-R if using this type of media.

The size of the source file is not relevant, it's all about the running time.

In my working folder it cames out at 3.5 gig when converted so looks like one per disc does this sound right?

No, you can put more than one hour on a disc. What exactly are these AVI's? Xvids/Divx files?

When converting a 90 minute movie to an Xvid/Divx AVI the final size will depend on the quality setting. It can be anywhere from about 500MB to 1400+MB in size. Either the 500MB or the 1400MB when converted to DVD at a bitrate of about 6500 kb/s will fill a DVD-5 blank.

Running time x video bitrate = final size on DVD.

The OP should be able to get 2 one hour AVI's on one disc. He should try it on a re-writeable and see if the results suits his needs.
