I'm buying a computer for myself and Im wondering If I put a wireless router in my basement (family computer located here) and a wireless USB adapter on the computer im going to buy, will it be able to go through the walls and stuff with no problem? I have a DSL modem.

Here are the two things Im looking to buy

Hi Andrew,

I have the same router and has been good for the past 2 1/2 years. I am currently looking for another as the range isnt fantastic. I use mine at home and I can get a poor signal connection from the router. My router is located in my front room (bottom floor at the front of the house) and my media PC is located in the master bedroom (1st floor at the back of the house).

So there is a ceiling and a brick wall between them at a range of 10m.

It is a very temprimental connection and frustrates me no end!!

I am looking at getting the new Belkin N1 Vision router, which is pre / draft 802.11/n and not too bad looking at reviews. Obviously more expensive, and not fully 802.11n certified, but hey best money can buy now.

always place the router either in the middle or top floor, and near the center of the house. you want the router to transmit evenly, and having it in the basement won't help.

i have a WRT54GS v5 running dd-wrt third party firmware and the linksys HGA7T antennas. double the wireless strength and more stable connections than linksys firmware. newer linksys routers have the antennas permanently attached, so you can't swap them out.
