Hi everyone, I'm thinking about buying a stand alone Blu-Ray player, but my concern is, what makes a bad Blu-Ray player? People say that the PS3 is probably one of the best players on the market. But I dont intend to play PS3 games at all, and being that it is a Sony player that I'm thinking of getting, you'd think that the quality wouldnt be different at all. Now I own a Toshibia HD-DVD player and I think the quality is awesome! And people said for HD-DVD players not to go with the Xbox 360 version because it was USB so I didnt, but I went over to my friends house the other day and saw his Xbox 360 version and I cant tell the difference between his player and mine....so what gives...am I just getting biased information. Thanks guys!

I guess the real question is, do you want a high end computer that plays blu-ray and games if that's important, or do you want a blu-ray player that puts out incredible picture and sound on a nice sound system. I don't think the PS3 is outputting the Dolby Tru HD or LPCM 5.1 yet...and that's not difficult if you have all the peices to the puzzle. I made some comments on discovering the HD quality sound on my system, and no HDMI swithing, it's the real s..t!
Well good luck, let us know how your venture turns out.

Well USB2.0 can handle 400Mbit of bandwidth. HDTV is between 18-25Mbit (compared to 7-9Mbit for digital SDTV). At least, that's the bitrate that CapDVHS shows when I capture an HDTV feed.

So 400Mbit is more than enough to push an HD-DVD stream to your computer from an external device.

As long as your device is reading the entire disc contents without error, I would imagine any difference in quality would be due to the TV's quality and the cables used.
