I was "racing" my brother's computer with mine. His processor is a 3.2ghz intel dual core, with a 1.5 gb/s hard drive, and 1gb of RAM. My computer's processor is a 2.4ghz intel quad core. with a 3.0 gb/s hard drive, and 2gb of RAM. I turned them on both at the same time, and when we logged in, my computer stalled at "Welcome", and his loaded in like 5 seconds. I have also been noticing some lagging in vista. Shouldn't my computer be faster than his? Could this be a driver problem?
thx in advance...

if the pcs arent the exact same specs and operating system (Vista vs XP) then you will see a difference.
It could also be startup programs, to many programs loading at startup.

I would probably make sure you have no issues with your system first. As sam said within your startup there could be a few system resource hoggers, and applications loading may not be utlized for Vista. Just double check everything is ok before reverting back ;o)

Stopping at the welcome page is a software issue. However, if his CPU is a Core 2 Duo, it will load windows faster than yours, since windows XP won't use four of your cores loading the OS, so his higher clock speed wins out. If its a pentium D though, there's no excuse, they're slow as hell, no matter what the clock speed.

yup, double checked everything...finally fixed the problem. I disabled a whole bunch of useless Java programs in the start up programs, and disabled some old barely-compatable programs wit vista. Now, it loads in a blink of an eye (literally)
and by the way, i got an asus p5n-e
and my bro has some abit motherboard...dont know wut model #
i will be upgrading soon.
thanks for the help
