Hi,

I've been trying to find an explanination of downscaling on google but haven't found anything useful so thought I would ask here.

When a 1080p video is "downscaled" to be played on a 720p TV or even a standart 480i TV is some of the video lost in the downscaling? Or how is the resolution deduced?

Also what is the advantage of setting the player (e.g. PS3) to output in the desired resolution, rather than just feeding 1080p to a standard TV and letting it adjust the image?

Thanks for any answers =)
