Hello all,
I have a sony trv240 and with a usb cord I can capture video from the cassete. the problem is it's only in mpeg format when it gets loaded into the pc.
I dont have a Ilink firewire cable, but was wondering if using that and capturing software would capture the quality video from the cassette directly onto my pc?
thanks

Firewire is far superior to USB. Actually, USB should not be used if you have the option for firewire.

Even though your videocamera is 8mm, it does have the iLink (firewire) port for capture from your PC.

PFloyd is correct. When you capture via firewire, you can capture the video as an .avi file which is uncompressed and superior to capturing as an .mpeg file.

Get a good firewire cable, and if your computer doesn't have an IEEE 1394 (firewire) input, you can buy a card and install it.

I don't have a firewire port on my pc, but would a usb to firewire adapter make the connection?
again, thank you for all your help.

No, the capture would still be slow, if there was such and adapter. Firewire cards, for computers, are relatively inexpensive, and they work.

I'll try buying the firewire port card if this doesn't work,
but here's the Usb adapter I bought along with the cable:
