I have a PS2 Slim Model SCPH 75001. I recently ordered the Swap Magic 3.6 to play my back ups, and I never could get the DVD ROM Driver disk to work. The CD driver disk works everytime, but none of my backups are CD. I read many forums, and have seen where many people have had the same problems, and I tried all the suggestions, but with no luck.
I finally got the DVD ROM disk to work and wanted to share what I'm doing to get it to boot up. It doesn't work every time, but with practice, I'm getting it to boot up most everytime now.
First: Make sure all the magic switches are installed correctly.
Second: Place the DVD ROM in the PS2 and turn it on.
Third: Lightly tap or rub the top of the disk, the part furthest from you and above the laser, while it is spinning. If you add just the right amount of pressure while the laser is trying to read the disk then it may boot up. Don't add too much pressure 'cause you will slow the disk down, and you don't want the disk to touch the laser eye. I finally have a pattern down that works about every time. I lightly make circular motions with my finger where the white meets the black on the disk. Keep doing it until the Swap Magic screen appears.
Sometimes it takes me to the browser screen and I will choose the disk option and try again.
Sometimes it takes me to the red screen and tells me to insert a valid PS or PS2 disk. Just start over
Keep trying and hopefully you'll get it eventually. It took me quite awhile the first time.
I guess this gets the disk a little closer to the laser, but I didn't want to mess with the laser.
Forth: Take the Swap Magic disk out, and put your backup in, then hit X.
I hope this helps someone. I was thrilled the first time it booted up for me.
