"Crunchy" audio playback with dvd + MPC

Hey guys, i've been looking for a solution to this problem:
a few days ago My dvd playback started having audio issues. the audio is "crunchy", there is this blippy, ripping sound, it's sort of rhythmic and I think it has something to do with the audio codec, it sounds like it's chocking on samples or something.

steps i've taken:
Uninstalled all my dvd players and codecs, reinstalled the klite mega pack. no change

on Media player classic, I disabled the audio switcher. this fixed the issue for about five minutes, then it started to re-occur.

a note about the media:
at present, I'm in china, and all of these dvds are bootlegs i've bought off the street. However, I have played these dvd's before on the same setup with no issues. I think perhaps the problem arose after i played "flight of the living dead"(horrible movie btw). It installed sometihng called "Interactual video player". this installed without my permission, and I removed it from the xp add/remove programs folder.

anyway, if any of you could shed some light on to this subject, I would be much appreciated.
