Hey all, I'm in the military and about to deploy. I would really like to have movies to watch while I'm there, but carrying my 500+ dvd collection would really be a pain. I guess what I'm trying to do is convert all of them into something like AVI or something so that I can get them all to play and fit on a 500gb hd or two. I only have a few weeks now and most of the threads I've read say that each movie takes 3-20 hours depending on the machine, I think my machine should be pretty fast. What I'm looking to do is convert my gaming pc to focus on this alone. What programs should I run, what OS, what are the best ways to do this. Most of the articles I've read say you need to run multiple programs to do this, if so is there some way to set up macros or something to make it basically a one push start?? I am willing to spend up to $150 for software and such. The machine I'm running it on is as follows...

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 4200+
MEM: OCZ 4GB Kit DDR2-800 PC2-6400
HD : Dual WD Raptor 74GB Serial set at raid 0, 1x 500gb WD caviar
Vid: EVGA 7950 GX2 1gb
DVD: 2x Liteon SHM-165H6S 16X Dual Layer DVDRW Drive w/LightScribe
OS : Windows XP Pro full updated SP

I also recommend fairuse lite 2.6 (free version). But it will be a 3 step process.
1.) use free dvdfaddecryter to decode dvd
2.) then use free dvdshrink 3.2 to shrink to ISO
3.) now opem each ISO in fairuse and start processing, with fairuse you can batch process several ISO's at one time, I usually do 3 at a time. The program will even turn off the computer at the end of the conversion.

Either way you do it, even with a dual core cpu, it will still take about 2 hours per video conversion, but with computers you can keep them running overnite days on end with no problem.
