While updating Windows via internet, the pc shut itself down. Now when power is turned on only the fans and drives are operating. The Power LED is on the HDD LED flashes once then stays off. No video signal.
I have tried to reset the CMOS, removed all the drives, reinstalled the drives to no prevail. Also no Beeps from the Motherboard Speaker.
Thank you,
Brian, in Glendale Arizona

look closer
look at the main board for popped capacitors and suck
put your OS (XP) disk n the drive and see if at least it starts a visual process
return with results

Most likely, you will need a new power supply

Where did that thought come from? Seems a bit early to state that the PSU is faulty. Although, it should be checked to make sure it supplies enough power to run your equipment.
How many watts on the PSU? What equip is in your rig?

@DoubleDwn,
My cousin had similar problems. We tried resetting the Cmos, removed and installed the drives. No beeps from mobo. Brought a new power supply. Voila, system is back on.

Would all the Fans still run if the power supply is bad?

Yes, other parts in the computer can still work.
Sometimes when PSU's blow, they might only blow one of the rails.
But if I was you i would get a good quality new one, The golden rule rule for me is "Never ever cheap out on your psu" it can cost you a whole lot more in the long run.
Good luck

My RAM went bad on me a few weeks ago. It wouldn't boot and the cpu fan would just run wide open with no beeps or anything. I pulled my ram out stick by stick and it finally booted. It was really weird, I even waited a few days and tried to reinstall it and had the same problem. It had been in there for around a year and a half with no problems. To find it I just disconnected everything one thing at a time including all the drives. Just my two cents. Good luck

To add a bit to my situation - Just prior to the Outage, I installed the program for a Line6 Guitar processor. I hooked up the USB connection and Poof. Do you think with all the USB gear I have connected the PSU could not keep up?

if the psu is not a well built unit, then yes. if you have a lot plugged into the computer, you want to make sure that the psu can supply stable power. you might want to step up to a 500w psu.

never go cheap on a psu. a seasonic unit like THIS or an antec unit like THIS will power everything, and leave room for more.

Well, replacing the PSU had no affect. It must be the MotherBoard. The current MB is a MSI K9N SLI Platinum. I can't think of what else it could be.
Any thoughts?

Try unplugging everything except your h/d and MOBO and see if anything happens. How old is the board anyway?
Maybe you already did this, but check the board for popped capicators.
Do you have a friend who would let you try your h/d in his computer, just to see if thats still working?
Good luck.

I did disconnect everything other then the MB. Then shut down and connected one HD. Still nothing other then the Fan running. The Power light turns on but nothing from the HD activity light. I will connect the HD to my other PC tonight.
How do you check for popped capicators?
It appears that there is no power getting to some parts of the MB. But after installing a new PSU with not positive results other then a bad MD, I am lost.
Thanks.

Let me update what happened last night after installing the new PSU. There was only one thing that changed. With the new PSU after turning the power off the Power Light would Flash approx. every 2 seconds about 8-10 times then go out.

If i'm not mistaken a popped capacitor will look swollen on top (rounded) instead of flat.
It's hard to be 100 percent accurate without seeing these things, but I think you probably have a dead or almost dead MOBO.
Do you have a local computer shop you can take the computer to, so they can test the MOBO?
I don;t want to say for sure your MOBO is dead, would hate to see you go buy one and find out thats not the issue.
Good Luck
