Hi, today i upgraded my PC by replacing my 1 x 256mb Ram card with 2 x 1GB cards. all seemed to be going well upon startup, tried a few programs, all ok. when surfing the internet it then closed the program (internet explorer encountered a problem...) this happened about 4-5 times with the same page, i decided to run a virus check, just in case, this then completely crashed the comp.i opened the case and re-checked connections, i restarted, tried virus check again...crash. surfed the internet... lost connection 5 times. decided to do an XP system restore to a few days ago, this seems to have made it slightly less buggy, but it still isnt working like it used to. can anyone suggest some furthur action or things to try and fix these problems? do you need any info from me? please help, i though id make my PC faster (which it is) not crash all the time... thanks in advance.

One of the memory sticks may be causing errors. Which brand memory did you buy?
Try removing one of the two memory sticks and running your PC. If it's the same, try the other one. If one of these sticks is causing the problem, have it replaced.

Well, is it Asus motherboards, or is it the RAM you bought? I tend to find memory brands are guilty of incompatibility more often than motherboards. I don't know a single person who's ever had compatibility issues with Corsair RAM.

Your PC uses the Asus P5S800-VM motherboard, supporting DDR1 memory modules at PC3200, 2700 or 2100 speeds.
On that basis I'd recommend you buy PC3200.

Samsung made the best RAMBUS RD RAM, but I haven't heard anything, one way or the other about them, since then. I have used nothing but Corsair, in the last 3 machines that I built.

I had some Samsung RAM in my old PC (it came with it, I didn't choose it), and all I found out about it was that it's more sensitive to bad power supplies than the cheap-ass elixir I added to that system. Those sticks stayed working after the incident, but the samsung stuff pretty much literally went up in flames.
