hi ,
i have been a big fan of maxell for years , i have used their disc for some time and never had a problem . i just picked up a 50 pack at wal- mart and burned the first disc and it coded out as cmc mag - what the heck is up with this - why would cmc mag be making maxell disc . i have bought maxell , tdk , both i have used for years and both are coding out cmc mag . i have been unable to find maxell that code out as richojpn , which i really like . i have bought 2 16 x dvd+r memorex and they code out as richojpn so i have been using them . i really like the richojpn and get good scores with them . i just can't understand why maxell would change to cmc mag , or maybe i do - money - cheaper to make problay . the bad part is i have burned 4 disc and all got a 95 percent in nero cd/dvd speed . has cmc mag gotten any better or do you think they are still crap . also does anyone know if the maxell printable dvd+r code out as cmc or do they code out something better , thanks

Look at the label when you are in the store...if it reads Made in Japan it will be RicohJPN, if it reads Made in Taiwan you will be getting the Cmags.

The +16x memorex and maxell have switched identities in that speed. A total reversal from what we were used to in the slower 4x and 8x speed.I won't even bother with maxell anymore. Toward the end of their +8x full hub inkjet printables, cmags were running rampant.
If you can find the older Maxell +8x with the Made in Japan wrapper, pickem up.They're the Hitachi. The MIT spindles will code as cmags. Walmart carries them, and some of their stores were clearing them out. I've never encountered any issues with cmags. They've been improving their quality.
You'll also notice on the newer maxells have a tapered spindle (Clear top) instead of their usual straight cover.
My +16x memorex ricohs are looking very well. I've messed with 4-5 different batches and all were ricoh.Only time will tell when memorex switches manufacturers to make more $$$
All the Ricohjpn media I have burned were made in taiwan. I didn't encounter any 8x ricoh, but burned tons of +4x and +16x ricohjpn. All very good on my plextor and benqs.

Sorry about your CMAGS. I burned one box of Memorex CMAGs last Christmas, giving the discs away to friends--no one complained that they did not work. I was at a Sears store last night, and they had a lot of 8x media, including 50 packs of Sony branded TY for 21.99 and 15 packs of Maxell Made in Japan for 9.99. Obviously, those prices are high. However, Sears offers price matching up to 30 days after purchase. I bought just one box of TY for now and will be looking for Sony sales at Staples, Best Buy, etc. Then, I can go back and get some more. Sears is the only place I've seen Sony or Maxell MIJ in a long time.

I haven't seen any MIJ local media in a long time for sony and fuji. Only a few scarce MIJ maxell full hub inkjet printables, usually at wallyworld.
