Hi guys, I'm new to Linux, well, I haven't installed it yet, 'cause I haven't decided yet which distro to use, but I'm getting DSL, and one other distro, preferably Ubuntu or Fedora.

What I'm looking for is a Live CD for Ubuntu or Fedora 7 that will fit on a CD-R, 'cause I'm not sure whether the ones on either's site are real Live CD distros.

Thanks, eiffel :)

If it says live it means live.. linux teams don't lie about functions like that. The trouble with live things is.... they tie up a drive, and are slow compared to an installation...

Watch out for DSL with windows.. even live it can trash your file table (or something.. not sure what it does.. but it can kill windows)

Well thanks. I tried burning the .iso on a disc (This is DSL I'm talking about.) with ImgBurn on my MP3 player (But running programs like that means slow things..), but I'll try Daemon Tools. I read it can mount .isos. I was a little mislead when it said "installer" on Ubuntu's site.

With the results I got I thought the CD would be un-usable. I was wrong though :)

So I'll pick up Ubuntu and FreeBSD. I didn't find Fedora on that list at all so those two are gonna be the best choices :D

Anyways thanks varnull.

Edit: LOL! I thought that the disc was re-usable but DSL was still on it! XD

errr.. everything on freshmeat site is a live disk..

Just put it in and boot from your cd drive. These are not disks you can start from within windows. heh heh heh. I think there is a live version of ferdora, but it's really obscure and not updated recently

A hint?? burn the disk slow.. 12x on a cd is fast enough, and we have found that linux cd's sometimes don't like booting from dvd drives (no explanation. seems chipset/hardware related)

If you want a good little test distro to learn a bit on try puppylinux.

You can leave the cd unfinalized and save settings and more programs to your cd.. a very good plan unless you want the trouble of mounting a small partition on your hdd every time you want to save or access something.

gotta dash.. if you need some more help/ideas or anything just give us a shout
