I suspect, like myself, you have a firewall. If you are using an external ADSL modem w/ firewall built-in it is required to use port forwarding. Personaly though, it is a myth that your ISP provider can force you to keep that firewall up. And if they stil proclaim they can, I wouldn't go w/ that provider any longer. If you use PPPoe you can turn of the bridge and run your own firewall. I personaly have kept using neowatch2.4 because I like the total user controll and the lack of checking every darn outbound transmission. Iether way you have to be able to use port forwarding to allow the client to have a straight connection otherwise you'll always get a low ID.

Hey..
I almost have the same problem as you ppl have but the only difference is that my firewall is not in my control. I stay in a dorm and my machine is connected to a LAN which is protected by Firewall ( I hate 'em). Using a port scanner I came to know that port 4662 (default one for Emule) is blocked. Thus, low ID. Do anyone of you guys have a solution for this? I mean "Is there any other way of obtaining HighID without 4662 !!!!
Waiting for someone to respond.
Tnx in Adv.
Shalom.

Hi. I hope that someone can help. My friend and I have been downloading and both of us have LowID. We have both turned off our XP internet firewalls, our Norton Internet Security has also been switched off and we still suffer from LowID. Our port's are registered 4662 and we cannot see why we are getting LowID. Can anyone help ?

Hey!
There's a really easy way to get rid of low ids - they're caused by the server not being able to connect to your machine, but you being connected to it. All you need to do is open port 4662 for incoming connections on tcp AND udp. It's pretty easy to do in most firewall software suites, including the built in Windows XP one.
Hope this helps :)

smaynard: the lowid is not the cause of the 4662TCP port being closed or nondirected. It comes from not having an open/directed UDP port (which in most cases, as is the default) NOT 4662.
Usually its because of routers and such that problems with this arise .. although i have seen some really WIERD instances otherwise :)

I use Vonage for my home phone and the Vonage terminal is essentially a one line router.
For Vonage users to get the highid you first need to go to the start button select run and type in cmd. When the window pops up type in ipconfig and look for the ip address of your machine it will be the first line and there will be four sets of numbers eg."192.168.102.101". the last set of numbers is the key write it down or remember it(assuming you have the memory capacity of a gnat:))
Then go to http://192.168.102.1/advcfg.html enter the number you wrote down or remembered in the first virtual server field under ip then in the next box enter the port 4662 and finally choose both from the next drop down window.
Select save and wait for the terminal to reboot, you should be good to go.
My thanks to SMaynard for putting me on the right track.
