Now, before you all jump on the possibility that this media is incompatible with my drive, let me assure you that I *can* write to the disc successfully, but I have to format it in my standalone DVD recorder before I can write to it in my PC drives.
Another problem is that ImgBurn is unsuccessful when "locking volume for exclusive access." This isn't a major concern since it doesn't interfere with burning, but I do wonder if there is some connection between the two errors which may help me solve the other problem.
Oh, and the disc isn't dirty, either. It's almost brand new, and another identical disc has the same issue.
I've tried erasing the disc, first, in a separate operation, and it seems to be successful. But when I go to write to the apparently-erased disc I just get the same error.
I found that with my DVD-RW disks I don't mix them between the PC and the standalone recorder else they become unusable after a couple of times.
Sometimes it would be resurrected with a full format on the PC, but shortly after they would die.
If I record on the PC - it gets erased on the PC.
Same for the recorder.
things like windows media player can grab hold of drives to get cannot lock for exclusive access error. and may be part of the not fully/properly erasing for burning via pc.
yeah seems odd the standalone can erase for a good burn on pc, try a different pc app to erase and do full erase.
use ctrl+alt+delete keys to get task manager up see whats loaded up running and running in background, checking processes and aplications and right click on them and stop any you think maybe prob and try again.
