Hello AD adicts
I recently purchased an HP laptop Pavillion dv2000. It runs great and everything but after I downloaded some necessary applications, everytime I turn on the laptop my computer goes black for about 2 seconds and then it works perfectly. I know the reason why, It is because there are too many procesess turning on at the boot of my windows vista and unfortunately my 2gig ram can't handle it. I know thsi for a fact because when teh screen goes black the CPU usage is at 100%, and it definitely shouldn't be, and the thing is I don't even have too many programs starting. All i have is NOD32, messenger, and couple other necessary stuff. BUt there is also some stupid stuff starting up that I don't need.
My question is, does anyone know the way to stop some processes from starting at the start of my boot. I know the geek squad at best buy knows how to do it. I mean I know how to end the processes after the computer starts, but I don't want them starting in the first place. They call this tunning at best buy , I could get it done there but I don't want to spend money for something like that.
My question is, does anyone know how to do it, where can I learn how to do this, any information at all..

Most people in the IT field feel that Vista was a step down from XP. It requires too much RAM for starters, and no matter how pretty the GUI is the performance is lacking. To start off with many drivers for different applications are not available for Vista. That is just my take on the Vista. I've had to do work on Vista machines, and in many cases people ask me to put XP back on their machines because of having better overall performance. What a lot of companies are doing is buying new machines that come with Vista installed on them, and their IT guys format and install XP Pro on the machines. Some people like the fact that they have the latest but not greatest of operating systems on their machine.
I was thinking about that..because I compared my vista on my new laptop to my xp on my 1 year old pc and I like my xp so much more. What I see on the vista is that it takes up so much more ram than my xp..My xp takes up about 300mg and the vista about 1 gig and both the laptop have and pc have a 2 gig ram...and plus the only reason i was keeping the vista for now was the GIU just like u said...so I'll probabaly get it formated to xp..I was going to get it done anyways once I was fed up with vista...but THNX for the advice, I will definitely get xp. In my professional opinion XP is far superior to Vista. Making the change is a good change. With Vista you almost need 4Gigs of RAM to run at close to the speed that XP runs. Microsoft is actually in the process of making a new OS. It will probably be a couple of years before it is finished.
